Finding the perfect gift for your significant other can be tough, especially when it comes to Valentine’s Day. When shopping for someone’s birthday or Christmas present, you can go for practical things that you know he or she needs. However, by nature Valentine’s Day gift are expected to be more personal and/or romantic, but depending on how long you’ve been together, this can be stressful at any point in someone’s relationship, new or old!
Here are a few tips that will help you shop for your Valentine this February:
Valentine’s Day Gifts for a New-ish Relationship
You’ve been out a few times or even had a few awesome dates and see a romantic relationship maybe starting to bloom and now you need help to pick out a present or gift.
Even if you haven’t had the ‘exclusive’ conversation yet but it’s slowly creepy up to the middle of February, you would probably still like to let them know that you’re thinking of them this Valentine’s Day.
Please don’t feel you need to go overboard or even worse, don’t ignore the looming day. Simply find a sweet card with perhaps funny undertones, rather than the romantic ones, and a small gift, like a single flower (it doesn’t even need to be a rose), bottle of their liquor or wine of choice or even a gift card to a restaurant they want to try, a Cineplex gift card so they can see the latest blockbuster with their favourite action star like Vin Diesel, for example… oops, I digress :)… or one that you know they will love – -and you can just hope they will invite you along to enjoy either dinner or the movie. These types of gifts need to be more thoughtful than gushy and romantic.
Valentine’s Day Gift for a Serious Relationship
Now that you’ve had the ‘exclusive’ conversation and are in an established relationship, and you have more than an entry-level knowledge of your ‘other half’. Rather than opting for a more general gift, you can find something that you truly know your significant other will love or has had his/her eye on.
For example, if your girlfriend is a huge baseball fan, get seats for a game but then plan an entire date around the event. Wrap up the tickets in a gift box with a jersey from her team and perhaps even book reservations for dinner beforehand. Make the evening or day with you THE EVENT and game is simply another course 😉
If you know your boyfriend’s favorite band will be in town soon, spring for a pair of tickets – even if they are not your favorite band or even your type of music… and again, get a couple t-shirts to wear to show him how much you care because you are willing to attend just because you love him and he loves them! That’s the kind of partner you are.
Valentine’s Day Gifts for a Long Term Relationship
Chances are, by this point in your relationship you’ve traded lavish nights out for cozy Fridays on the couch together. While there is nothing wrong with that at all; that is certainly the level of contentedness that many strive for in a relationship, but you also want to make sure all romance hasn’t gone.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to splurge a bit on your significant other with a gift like jewelry, a watch or maybe a trip. If these things don’t strike your partner’s fancy, you can always spring for an item that you know they have had his or her eye on, but thinks is too pricey or lavish to buy for his or her self. This is where you step in – be the hero. Use this day each year to let the person who’s been with you through thick or thin know how much you appreciate him or her, and ultimately that they are WORTH IT!!
